Duty Area: Central Ethiopia Region – Silti Zone; Sidama Region- North Sidama Zone; Oromia Region -Jimma Zone (under the above zones' woreda health centers & catchment health posts)

Project: Community Breast Cancer Awareness creation, early detection & Referral

Employment Type: One-year contract, with possible extension based on project funding availability and satisfactory performance.

Salary: As per the ISHDO and project salary scale.

About ISHDO

ISHDO is a local implementing organization with nearly two decades of experience implementing community-based programs in different parts of Ethiopia. Its areas of work include HIV prevention and care, psychosocial support, education, livelihood, and integrated health services.

Currently, ISHDO is implementing a community breast cancer awareness, demand creation, referral, and early detection support project as a sub-recipient of the Clinton Health Access Initiative (CHAI).

Note: This position requires frequent travel to Health Posts and kebeles within the health facility catchment area .

Job Summary

Under the supervision of the breast cancer project coordinator, the Community Outreach Health Care Worker will support community breast cancer awareness, demand creation, early identification, referral, follow-up, and reporting activities. The position requires frequent travel to Health Posts and kebeles within the assigned health facility catchment area, and will work closely with Health Extension Workers (HEWs), Village Health Leaders (VHLs), Health Centers, and community structures.

Key Responsibilities

  • Coordinate community breast cancer awareness and demand creation activities in assigned kebeles and Health Posts.
  • Facilitate community dialogue sessions, market-day awareness events, and other outreach activities.
  • Work closely with HEWs, VHLs, Health Center staff, and community leaders.
  • Support household-level breast health awareness and follow-up activities.
  • Strengthen referral and follow-up between Health Posts and Health Centers.
  • Support community outreach and Clinical Breast Examination (CBE) activities in collaboration with trained Health Center providers.
  • Maintain activity and referral records and collect referral feedback.
  • Conduct frequent field travel to Health Posts and kebeles within the health facility catchment area.
  • Prepare and submit monthly and quarterly reports to the ISHDO Breast Cancer Project Coordinator.
  • Perform other related duties assigned by the supervisor.

Requirements & Qualifications

Minimum Qualification

  • Bachelor's Degree in Nursing or BSc in public health from a recognized institution.
  • Zero years of experience required. Fresh graduates are encouraged to apply.
  • Knowledge of NCDs, community health, or the rural health system is an advantage.
  • Good communication, counseling, teamwork, and basic reporting skills.
  • Ability and willingness to travel frequently to rural kebeles and Health Posts within the catchment area.
  • Knowledge of the local language of the duty station is an advantage.
  • Basic digital and report-writing skills.
  • Commitment to ISHDO's mission, core values, and professional ethics.
