Job Purpose
KEFI Minerals is preparing for construction of the Tulu Kapi project in Western Ethiopia approximately 360km West of Addis Ababa. KEFI plans to construct a 2.0 Mtpa open pit CIL production operation with an expected mine life of 9 – 12 years.
Construction of the project is to begin in 2025.
The role is critical in Providing the required inbound and outbound Logistics process takes place as per the country, global and company standard and logistics tasks are followed, status tracked, deviations/variations are noted and Logistics are managed effectively to assist TKGM operations.
Reporting to the Commercial Manager, the role forms an integral part of the Commercial management Team, tasked to be accountable for rendering a Logistics coordination and Liaison Services to the operations.
With the Close collaboration and consultation with Commercial Manger, the Logistics Liaison officer will play a pivotal role within the commercial department by building a central repository of liaising with stack holders like Ethiopian Customs Authority, Ethiopian Shipping and /Logistics Enterprise, Ethiopian Single window operations, different banks, regulatory and monitoring logistics related government and Privat entities while Import/Exported related data and be responsible for providing first-line technical support by maintaining a high degree of customer service for all support queries via phone, e-mail or in-person. In addition, he/she will support Logistics activities at assigned locations and on request gives support to supply chain functions sections such as Operations and Engineering departments.
Also, the role expects to participate in the daily running and developmental strategy of the business providing expert logistics related expertise advice as required on the sourced items and services.
Accountabilities for this Role
Logistics
- Serves as a trouble shooter, dealing with problems inherent in moving freight long distances and holding inventory in multiple global locations
- Responsible for overseeing the Import/Exported good transport process
- Develop methods and procedures for scheduling input materials for mining operations from suppliers to company warehouses in achieving customer demand and minimizing cost impacts to the company
- Develop and maintain transportation system on international freight that ensures business needs are met
- Ensure Logistics Department complies with international requirements
- Safeguard Import/Exported goods logistics operations and contents by establishing and monitoring security procedures and protocols.
Import/Export/Export Actors Lison
- Follow up Bank Forex requests, submitting PI's, manage status of approvals. against applications, or transfers from TKGM’S FCY Account.
- Keep foreign purchase documentation.
- Follow Import/Export delivery status and coordinates with concerned in relation to bank forex applications, Approvals or own remittances.
- Be a focal point to all commercial & private banks where TKGM is doing business as a foreign trade/Import/Export or required by Logistics obligation.
- In conjunction and coordination with the parties concerned in the Commercial and Finance department, assure getting the right kind of PI's from foreign suppliers and submitting ESW for relevant banks for possible forex requirements and allocations.
- Keep clean document of submitted PI's and Capture all the necessary data on soft and hard copy about the particular request.
- Maintain a good relationship with banks by assisting with their requirement at the time of approval with proper due diligence.
- Collect forex-related bank advice and other financial documents to finance.
- Strictly understand and follow incoterm terms and inform if change / Action is needed including on matters like LC or date of shipment extensions;
- Prepare the necessary follow-up and bank process documentation related to Tax exemption requests, forex allocation, extensions and amendments to be endorsed by the concerned whenever the need arises;
- Be a custodian of Import/Export files;
- Track Import/Export delivery status and notify as deem as necessary developments, changes and faults on time;
- Report weekly delivered Import/Exported items to Commercial manager with enough detail;
- Prepare payment requests for Import/Export related activities and keep records;
- Keep landing cost updated after delivery of the goods;
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Stakeholder & Risk Management
- Partner with mining, processing, engineering, and HSE departments to understand operational requirements and translate them into commercial terms
- Provide Logistics related advice to site leadership on major logistics projects
- Identify and mitigate Logistics risks specific to remote mine site operations
- Support budget planning and cost forecasting related to Logistics operations.
- Maintain strong relationships with key Logistics, OEMs, and service providers
Occupational Health and Safety
- Model behaviour that is consistent with the Tulu Kapi and values.
- Identify and interpret safety risks and resolve emerging issues.
- Maintain processes to provide a safe workplace to all employees and external service providers undertaking work within the area of accountability.
- Compliance & Reporting
- Ensure Logistics activities comply with company policy, antibribery/corruption standards, and applicable mining and labor legislation
- Prepare regular reports on Logistics outcomes and performance, savings achieved, and risk exposure for senior management
- Maintain accurate records to support audits and regulatory inspections
- Register approved domestic and foreign purchase order on the logistics roll.
- Logistics Negotiations and Management
- Participate the development, negotiation, and administration of routine and complex strategic, category with suppliers, service providers, and off takers.
- Ensure strict adherence to Logistics terms and conditions, including managing Logistical correspondence, notices, and deliverables
- Proactively identify, assess, and manage Logistics risks associated with sourcing and evaluating and also delivery operations.
- Oversee proper total cost of ownership during sourcing logistics services, where TKGM is benefited from the sourcing efforts, ensuring that variations and claims are properly priced, documented, and negotiated to maximize entitlements and safeguard margins.
- Support the resolution of claims, variations, and disputes.
- Risk Management
- Identify, assess, and mitigate Logistics risks across all aspects of the mining operation, including, volatility in pricing, devaluations, supplier default and Logistics efficiencies by using strong vetting and due diligence process.
- Develop and implement risk mitigation strategies and contingency plans.
- Ensure clear ownership of risks across the project team and conduct regular reviews.
Compliance and Governance
- Ensure all Logistics activities comply with internal policies, corporate governance frameworks, and relevant local and international laws and regulations.
- Maintain meticulous records to support all Logistics processes, decisions and transactions.
- Stakeholder Engagement
- Build and maintain strong relationships with internal stakeholders (operations, technical teams, corporate functions) and external stakeholders (clients, suppliers, regulatory authorities).
Finaly, the role Look after the proper Logistics process is adhered to strategic category and local purchased materials and services.
Requirements & Qualifications
Educational Background
- Diploma or Bachelor Degree in Information Technology, Business Administration, Marketing, Supply Chain Management or related fields
- Supporting additional qualifications focusing on logistic management and/or finance will be an advantage
Key Skills/Experience Required
- Minimum of 6 years for Diploma Holders or 4 Years for Degree Holders in mining, resource, manufacturing, Logistics and heavy industries, Customer Service or related (knowledge of Import/Export/customs processes/transportation management/warehouse management is a plus)
- Demonstrated experience managing high-value Logistics (mining Logistics or agreements, EPC/EPCM Logistics, major equipment supply).
- Work experience on ESW portal, ERCA systems, and similar systems is preferred
- Experience in a strong team player role and development skills.
- Experience in working on ERP system.
- Strong understanding of Ethiopian customs lows, Import/Export declarations, tax exemption privilege processing and handling, incoterm interpretation, international trading experience (both Import/Export and export).
- Extensive experience in working with a cross-functional team.
- Thorough understanding of the relevant industry regulations and compliance framework as well as Logistics law and commercial principles.
- Advanced knowledge of Microsoft 365 and Office suite (Word, excel).

Excellent written and verbal communication with language proficiency in English, Afaan Oromo and Amharic at the Common European Framework of Reference (CEFR) category C1: Proficient User standard and the ability to present complex Logistics and Logisticsing information clearly and concisely to diverse audiences.

- Team Orientation: Ability to work effectively as part of a team and collaborate with diverse suppliers and vendors and to build effective business relationships, teamed with solid influencing skills working across several areas of the business.
