Job Description

3.     Position Description

ODA is seeking a Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene Expert for an integrated community development program (ICDP) that has been implemented in West Hararghe Zone Oda Bultum district. The project has aimed to improve the community health status of the community through   sanitation and hygiene promotion of the target population

  •  Promoting improved, sanitation, and hygiene related behavior of the target  community,  volunteers, and government staff;
  • Technical assistance in supporting water supply, sanitation and hygiene (WASH), related activities
  •   Manage capacity building at the community level to promote sanitation and hygiene
  • Technical assistance to support targeted WASH and related Behavior Change Communication (BCC) and capacity improvements
  • The WASH Expert will serve as the project’s full-time technical lead for all water, sanitation and hygiene activities. The WASH Expert will provide technical direction to the project, ensuring that project outcomes related to the promotion of hygiene related behavior, promotion WASH related BCC, and supporting water supply, sanitation and hygiene product marketing. This position will stationed at Project coordination office for effective implementation, close follow up day today routine operation of WaSH activities. This is a full-time position and s/he will report to the Water Resource Engineer to the Head office on regular basis.

4.     Responsibilities

  •  Serve as the technical lead on all WASH activities.
  • Lead the development of project work plans, ensuring that targets are met and project outcomes are achieved.
  •   Work closely with project staff, local government entities, and other stakeholders to design and implement targeted strategies for the improved community participation in improving the sanitation and hygiene status of the community.
  • Contribute detailed and accurate written inputs to fulfill project technical and financial reporting requirements.
  •   Technically support  civil works around water points
  • Install pumps and train caretakers
  • Carry out major repairs
  • Overlook Supply of equipment and spare parts
  • Conduct inspection and identify any damages
  • Keep records of maintenance & records
  • Report major break down to WaSHCO
  • Keep and maintain tools & spare parts
  • Train  users on use of facilities
  • Orient every house hold to own and uses latrine
  •   Promote to use hand washing facilities
  • Aware the users to drain trenches from water points constructed and maintained
  • Orient that school latrine well managed and kept clean
  •   Observe reduced water and sanitation related diseases
  •   Coach latrines are regularly used by all family members, cleaned, and personal hygiene maintained
  • Educate households practicing good hygiene habits
  • Follow  WaSHCO meets regularly and effectively  work on scheme  management
  • Educate strong community ownership-no misuse
  •   Educate the community to hold financial records are well kept and available to community members
  • Participate in relevant coordination meeting to present project activities, ensure coordination with other projects, and assure highest quality of project implementation

Job Requirements

5. Qualification required

  •  Education:-BSc Degree in water, sanitation & Hygiene or related field with three years’ experience, five years for 10 +3 or college Diploma in related fields
  •   Minimum experience:-3 years & above
  •   Fluent in oral and written English and Afaan Oromo is mandatory
  •   The position requires ability and willingness to work in hard situation
