Brief Highlight of EWLA: Established in 1995, the Ethiopian Women Lawyers Association (EWLA) is a non-governmental, non-partisan and not-for- profit local organization mainly working for the promotion and advancement of women’s rights in the country. It strives towards ensuring gender equality and women empowerment through fighting Gender Based Violence and Violence against Women and Children. Since its establishment, EWLA has provided free legal aid service for needy women and children through its structures stretched from its head office in Addis Ababa to the branch offices in Amhara, Oromiya, Gambella, Benishangul Gumuz, Dire Dawa; and Southern regional states. Currently, it has opened new branch offices in Somali and Afar Regional States. EWLA has also a structure at grass-roots level in which there are strong 54 Volunteer Committees at zonal and woreda levels of its intervention areas.
Being a fulltime staff and accountable to the Program Manager, the job holder will be stationed at the Headquarter of the Ethiopian Women Lawyers Association. The job holder will mainly be responsible for coordinating the core projects of EWLA which are designed to implement core programs of the Association namely, Legal Aid, Public Education and Capacity Building and Research and Advocacy. In this regard she/he is responsible for preparing project proposals, track implementation status of individual projects and performance of volunteer committees in consultation with Regional Offices and provide necessary technical support in consultation with the Program Manager and deliver relevant tasks to be assigned by the Program Manager.
The Assistant Program Coordinator is accountable to general directives form the Program Manager and shall report to her.
Duration : One-year contract with possibility of Extension
- Master of Arts in Law or LLB with a minimum of 5 and 7 years of relevant experiences respectively
- Must have experience working in NGO
- Female applicants are highly encouraged
- Excellent project writing and report producing skills both in English and Amharic, knowledge of participatory approaches and tools, computer skill, experience of working with CSO sector, demonstrated ability to work in team, evidence of strong self management skills and commitment and willingness to work for gender and women empowerment.
