Context of the Role:
Expectation State is a purpose driven company, committed to tackling the toughest problems in Emerging States. We provide a different approach to private sector development in our focus countries, offering a specialist vehicle to increase the quantity and quality of investment emerging states attract.
We are planning to expand our presence and establish a country platform in Ethiopia, building on a successful portfolio of work across the Middle East and North Africa. We are looking for a Country Representative to lead this expansion.
The Country Representative will grow deep and influential relationships with international donors, the government and the private sector, spearheading the application of Expectation State’s model in the country. They will be responsible for delivering work already in Expectation State’s portfolio as well as leading efforts to secure new and exciting projects in the field of economic development. We work hard to be much more than a consultancy company, advocating for changes in how governments and donors work, for the ultimate benefit of everyday citizens.

1. Deliver on our existing projects in Ethiopia
*Deliver technical and project management
support to Expectation State projects in Ethiopia,
providing world-class expertise to clients and
2. Lead new business growth
*Build relationships with international donors and
partner organisations to position for and win
tenders and projects.
3. Represent Expectation State in Ethiopia
*Take responsibility for maintaining and growing
our network and influence in Ethiopia, building
partnerships and identifying opportunities to
deliver our mission.
*Build and take ownership of a country strategy
and action plan. Work with the wider Expectation
State team to deliver, monitor and adapt the
strategy based on what we need to achieve our
mission and goals.
*In time, be the voice of our business in the media
and other communications channels. Promote
our work and position us as a leading voice on
citizen-centric economic development and
investment in Ethiopia.
4.Coordinate our operations in Ethiopia
*Identify what our business needs to be able to
grow in terms of talent; attracting and recruiting
the best talent in the market and developing them
to be even better.
*Support colleagues and consultants as they join
you in Ethiopia to deliver projects and initiatives.
*Maintain an ongoing network of top class
consultants in the country.

You should have a passion for and commitment to Ethiopia, and an appreciation for the potential of inclusive growth. You need to be equally comfortable representing the company at senior levels (Ministerial and C-suite), providing technical inputs as part of the design and delivery of our interventions, and managing complex programmes.
You need to be open to new and ambitious approaches and be rooted in the Ethiopian ecosystem. You should be prepared to manage up and down within the company, while creating strong and collaborative relationships with team members based in other countries.
Specifically, we need:
*Prior experience in Ethiopia on private sector development and investment;
*An established understanding of international donor activity in the country, and a clear drive to win business;
*An ability to work with private and public partners, with proven track record of doing so;
*Experience of working with start-ups and SMEs to deliver on their potential;
*Background in working in politically complex environments;
*Written and spoken fluency in English; and
*A hunger to move quickly, make an impact and enjoy yourself and the team while doing so.
